There is/ There are


We use there is + a singular noun to say that something exists or doesn't exist

For example:
  • There is a book on table.
  • There's a tennis cout in this hotel. 
Its negative form is:
  • There isn't a lake near of house
Note: we also use there is with uncountable nouns 
  • There is a some coffee in the coffee pot 
With plural nouns, we use there are in positive statements and there aren't in negative statements

For example:

There are some apples in the basket.         There are four books on the table

Its negative form:

  • There aren't any flights on sundays
